Lightweight Manufacturing Centre

Making the next generation of sustainable products and processes

The Lightweight Manufacturing Centre (LMC) is a specialist technology centre within the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland.

Our team is building the capability in Scotland to support technology and supply chain development for exploiting and processing novel and industrial materials.

We're here to help you make the next generation of products more sustainable and efficient while transforming your business, whatever your size or sector.

Using our micro circular economy model, we will work with you and our network of industry, academic, and funding partners to explore and de-risk innovation across the full product lifecycle.

Our work

We need coherent strategies to reclaim and reformat composite materials to enable their use in other products – like recycling aeroplanes and turning them into drinks cans.

With a team of materials, design, and manufacturing specialists and scientists, we're championing the approach of embracing lighter-weight, more sustainable materials through our three testbeds; FutureFibre, Sustainable Composites, and the Reconfigurable Pilot Line. These three test beds link together to form our very own micro circular economy.

Reconfigurable Pilot Line

An accessible, flexible and modular alternative to a traditional fixed pilot line.

FutureFibre

The search for an eco-friendlier alternative to traditional fibre is on.
